Orphan Black fans rejoice! We heard glimmerings of a television sequel to the popular BBC America show way back in 2019, and it looks like the project is still moving forward with a head writer attached.
According to Variety, Anna Fishko is now attached as writer and executive producer for AMC’s sequel Orphan Black series. We don’t have many additional details yet, other than that a writers room has been set up and that this will not be a reboot but a new storyline set in the same world.

The original Orphan Black was co-created by John Fawcett and Graeme Manson and premiered in 2013. It aired for five seasons and starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman with multiple clones who discovers that someone is trying to kill every version of her. Maslany, who was recently cast as the lead in Marvel’s Disney+ show, She-Hulk, has also revisited the Orphan Black world in Serial Box’s scripted drama Orphan Black: The Next Chapter, which takes place eight years after the end of the original show.
Maslany got several well-deserved awards for her performance in the original series including an Emmy for best actress in a drama series in 2016. It’s unclear, however, whether she’ll be in the sequel show as well. Fishko brings some great experience to the project and has worked in the past for AMC as a writer and producer on Fear the Walking Dead. She was also writer and co-executive producer on Netflix’s The Society, whose second season was ultimately canceled because of Covid delays.
No news at this point on if/when the sequel will make its way to AMC, sadly. In the meantime, we can listen to the podcast and/or watch the original Orphan Black on Netflix, Prime Video, or AMC+.
